Mango Tree House

Residential care is offered at Mango Tree House, presently a home to 35 youngsters. Many have been abused, abandoned, neglected or are alone in the world. At the home they are fed, clothed, educated, encouraged and equipped with life skills. Above all, they experience 'family' love in a community made up of qualified social workers, a resident teacher and house parents.

They stay with us until they complete their education, high school or college, or until they decide they are ready to leave. We offer them a long-term commitment and many stay with us for over a decade.

Students Projects

Extended Family Care is offered to those youngsters who have loving families, but whose financial situation means that they have to work rather that attend school. By providing financial assistance, and regular support and contact through home and school visits, we aim to help them gain an education and break out of the cycle of poverty. We currently help around 60 youngsters through this scheme, which extends to outlying rural areas, as well as Manila's slums and rubbish dumps.

Cashew Tree House

Life on the rubbish dumps is hard to imagine. The most disadvantaged families exist by scavenging for anything of value. They live on rubbish, in homes made of rubbish, amongst disease and stench. As recent landslide disasters have shown, it is a dangerous existence. Yet it is here that Cashew Tree House, our Pre-school Education scheme, serves local children.

Built at the Payatas rubbish dump in 1998, it teaches over 150 four to six year olds, its facilities are in stark contrast to its surroundings. Classes are run twice a day, yet demand still outstrips available places as it is the only such facility in the area. Parents are hugely supportive, understandable wanting to give their children the best possible start in life.
